M.P. in hospital

PA Invercargill The National member of Parliament for Invercargill, Mr Norman Jones, is in Southland Hospital with a heart complaint. He was admitted to the coronary care unit on Wednesday, but was moved to a ward on Friday after his condition stabilised. Mr Jones said he had had neck pains for about a fortnight, for which he had been wearing a medical collar. He also had pain in an arm.

He had suffered chest pains on Wednesday, he said. Since then doctors had given him . “the works” and diagnosed the problem as “a bit of angina or something,” Mr Jones said. He hoped he would be discharged from hospital this week or next.

Nominations have not yet been called for the National candidacy in the Invercargill electorate. Mr Jones said he would not stand again if he did not feel well enough to do an M.P.’s job. He has held the seat since 1975.
