Hornby ahead by five points

Heathcote, Hornby and Upper Riccarton achieved outright wins in the second round of the senior suburban cricket competition on Saturday.

Hornby leads the competition, five points clear of Heathcote and Upper Riccarton. The highest individual performance with the bat on Saturday came from New Brighton’s player-coach, Derek Burrell, who made 117.

Heathcote took maximum points at Heathcote Domain against Hoon Hay. Having been bundled out for 64, it was asked to follow on and was dismissed second time for 139. Heathcote turned in a good bowling performance, particularly from Darryl Moody and Darryl Oetgen.

Hornby declared its first innings at its overnight score, 62 runs ahead of Sumner. In its second innings Sumner failed to make much headway and was bowled out for 121. Hornby knocked off the 60 runs for victory for the loss of one wicket.

Upper Riccarton beat Southern Districts at Riccarton Domain in a game dominated by a fine bowling effort by Dave Kennedy. In Southern Districts’ first innings he took eight for 54 and the second time around, when 186 were required for vic-
