Weather hits series build-up
Most cricketers will have tittle chance to sharpen up for the selection and opening round of the North Canterbury inter-sub-association Senior Shield representative series. The first round is set for Labour day but many of the cricketers have yet to play a match in their sub-association championships. Competition matches have been washed out by rain, and the weather has handicapped practices. North Canterbury players and selectors will be desperately hoping for fine weather on Saturday. If the weather causes another lot of postponements or cancellations, selectors in some of the sub-associations win be virtually having to select on last season’s form. Some players will have the uncertainty' of not having tested their own form. The draw for the first round of the Senior Shield series is.— .Ashley v Banks Peninsula (holder), at Ashgrove Park,- Rangiora; Melvern v Hurunui, at Sheffield; Ellesmere a bye. The first round of the under-23 representative series for the Norman Allan Trophy will be played on November 23. the draw is Hurunui v Malvern, at Scargill; Ellesmere v Ashley, at Burnham; Banks Peninsula, a bye.
