By

BRYCE SIIJIS

The first-division yacht Southern Fun (McMillin) made the most of difficult 20-25-knot winds to win the Lyttelton-to-Sumner Bay return race on Saturday.' Skippered by lan Franklin, the Davidson design made a good start and opened up a handy lead as the fleet approached the Lyttelton heads. In a windshift at the heads Southern Fun was caught in a hole and the remainder of the fleet caught up; several yachts passing before being becalmed. In the run back up the harbour Southern Fun opened up a 4min lead, Franklin putting a loose cover over the fleet as a tacking duel developed between Archon and Neural Magic. Archon won

the battle for second place, finishing seven minutes behind Southern Fun. In the second division.
