PA Wellington Joint forestry ventures between New Zealand and China are being investigated after a Chinese mission to New Zealand earlier this month.
China had offered New Zealand a chance to participate in a. joint-venture veneer mill in Northern China, said the Forest Ser-
vice’s acting directorgeneral, Mr Alan Familton. There species of ash, birch and oak were available for the production of high-value veneers. New Zealand would have the first option of using the veneers produced. Alternatively they could be sold on the world market.
