Lightning cuts power in Canterbury

Lightning strikes on transformers caused power cuts to more than 200 houses in central Canterbury last evening. A house in New Brighton was also struck by lightning when an electrical storm from the southwest passed over Christchurch between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. The windows of the house were shattered and its power supply cut.
