Carvings for Sir Paul

PA New Plymouth Te Atiawa tribe representatives of Taranaki have been invited to Goverment House, Wellington, to present two carvings to the GovernorGeneral, Sir Paul Reeves. Sir Paul’s official secretary in Wellington, Mr Paul Canham, said the carvings would be presented at a special ceremony on November 15. The carvings, two

poupou (wall panels), will be the first of their kind installed in the official residence of the Gover-nor-General, Government House. They have been carved in the Taranaki style. The November hui will coincide with the first anniversary of Sir Paul’s investiture as GovernorGeneral. He has invited about 100 people from Taranaki and the East

Coast region to stay with him in Wellington. The visitors will be hosted in the ballroom of Government House. A similar hui was held last year when Sir Paul took up his appointment. He is of Taranaki descent. Maori protocol prohibits the names and stories behind the carvings being made public until they are unveiled.
