S.A. exchange ends
PA Auckland Rotary says it will not accept any more South African exchange students; nor will it send New Zealanders to South Africa. A spokesman said the service club had made such a decision in the light of the controversy which resulted in a South African student, Nicole Oschger, withdrawing from Waiariki Community College at Rotorua earlier in the year. The chairman of the Auckland district youth
exchange committee of Rotary, Mr John Robinson, said the district governors had decided that exchanges with South Africa were “just too much trouble.” “It is unfortunate, but some people make too much controversy over the whole thing for it to be worth carrying on. We don’t feel it is fair on the students. “South Africa is quite happy to go on accepting our students, but we don’t feel that would be an exchange.”
