Pay offer accepted
PA Dunedin A wage offer of 6 per cent was accepted by 200 Fisher and Paykel mem's bers of the Engineers’ Union at Mosgiel yesterday. Engineers at the Mosgiel plant and the two in Dunedin will receive the increase backdated to Monday, said the company’s general manager, Mr Murray Higgs, last evening. The Engineers’ Union has claimed 11.5 per cent in natjonal award talks and responded to the employers’ counter-claim of 5 per cent by withdrawing from negotiations. At their meeting yesterday the engineers had listened to their national secretary, Mr Rex Jones, but “were not dissuaded” from accepting the company’s offer. Should the national award be settled above 6 per cent, Fisher and Paykel engineers would receive the difference, Mr Higgs said.
