Silver jewellery

Hand-crafted silver jewellery features in an exhibition of Penny Hughes’ recent work at the Gefn Gallery. Chain necklaces of triangles, diamonds and straight lines, are scored and pierced for decoration. The shapes catch the light and the emphasis, says the jeweller, is on movement. A series of complementary earrings feature

drilled and pierced plates joined by sterling silver wire links. Penny Hughes is a member of the Gefn Craft Co-operative. She graduated in three dimensional design from art school in England. Since coming to New Zealand to live eight years ago, she has exhibited her work often. The exhibition began on Monday and will continue until October 25.
