Mowing the verges
Sir—During election time our councillors promise just about everything; but when they get in ...? Surely we can find employment for a few fellows to mow the grass outside homes and clean drains, which are a dis-, grace after rubbish collection. These are not cleaned until there is a flood which makes it dangerous to motorists. My grass verge has been done by me because it had got unsightly waiting for the council to do it. If I and others have to do it all the time, I reckon we should have $2O a year knocked off our rates. When the Queen came down Linwood Avenue the grass verges were mowed twice a week. I am sure she would wonder why they
are not always like that. Councillors should open their eyes when they walk around these places and realise what a beautiful place Christchurch can be. — Yours, etc.,
FRANK LEE. October 13, 1986.
