PA Wellington Five people died in a crash on Wellington’s Western Hutt road last evening. A car jumped the grass median strip just south of the Haywards turnoff and hit two northbound cars, Lower Hutt police said. Rescue workers recovered four bodies, including at least two from a
two-door Chevrolet. A fifth body was found more than an hour after the accident in bushes near the side of the road. A Triumph 2000 was destroyed on impact with the Chevrolet. The driver of the third car, which was being overtaken at the time of the accident, was taken by ambulance to Hutt Hospital with minor facial and leg injuries. The names of the dead and injured were not available late last evening. Sergeant Allan Beardsley, of Lower Hutt police, said at least four of the dead were men.
