Coal alternatives ‘ignored’
PA Wellington The Government ignored possible alternative appointments to the recently announced Coal Corporation Establishment Board in their pursuit of “commercial madness,” said the Public Service Association president, Mr Colin Hicks. “The board is made up of bankers, lawyers and businessmen, hardly a representative cross-section of the New Zealand community,” Mr Hicks said in response to the Minister of Energy, Mr Tizard’s, recent announcement on the composition of the board. “It is our belief the future decisions the board is likely to take will be motivated by profit only and are unlikely to reflect any concern for the social impact on jobs, prices and services provided by the Corporation,” Mr Hicks said.
