Meat report

PA Wellington The lamb market in Britain has been dominated by the domestic product, the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board said in its weekly market report. Although the New Zealand lamb trade was reported as being slow, it noted that quotations were firmer in spite of poor offtake. On the Smithfield market this week New Zealand PL grade carcases were quoted at 62 to 66p a pound (NZ377C to 402 c a kg).

The United States imported manufacturing beef trade had been somewhat volatile with prices firming up towards the end of the week. As the United States domestic beef market strengthened, Australian and New Zealand beef prices followed.

The average price for both imported bull and cow beef increased by USlc to US97c a pound cif and 89c a pound cif respectively (NZ4l4c and NZ3BOc a kg).
