Lottery Board warning

Wellington reporter A warning has been given by the Lottery Board that many of the recipients of its funds will have to look to other sources of money. In its annual report to Parliament it said that it had been aware for some time of the need to reduce the number of organisations it funded. Such a reduction would

permit a more flexible response to new ideas and the board had adopted a policy of supporting larger but one-off grants. This was necessary if new initiatives were to be supported, said the board’s secretary, Mr O. R. Davie. But it was also necessary to cushion the board in the immediate future because of a levelling of the earnings from -lot-

teries. The new policy meant that organisations which had in the past relied on long-term funding from the board would now need to think about seeking other sources of funds, he said. Where possible, such organisations would be given the chance to find other sources of finance before the board’s grant ceased.
