No difference in microwaves

NZPA Sydney Microwave ovens costing sAustsoo perform just as well as sAustlooo ones, says the Australian consumer magazine, “Choice.” But they are being priced out of most Australian kitchens because of the recent shrinking value of the dollar. The Australian Consumers’ Association’s journal said all microwave ovens sold in Australia were imported and therefore becoming more expensive because of the dollar’s gradual devaluation.

As a result, consumers

were tending to settle for medium-sized microwaves, where once they were buying large ones, but losing nothing on performance. Choice said tests on five popular mid-sized ovens had showed near-identical performance in spite of a wide range in prices. Microwave ovens were getting better and continued to rate among the most reliable of all household appliances. “Because of the stringent standards prevailing in Australia, microwave ovens are quite safe,” the report said.
