Rescue and revenge in ‘Runaway Train’
A deadly derailment awaits two stowaway convicts and a woman trapped aboard a speeding runaway train in “Runaway Train,” a tale of rescue and revenge which will start at the Savoy tomorrow. Escaping from their high-security prison, and the inhumane treatment of the chief guard,
Manny (Jon Voight) and Buck (Eric Roberts) break out into the icy wilderness of the American Northwest. Soon, the chief guard (John P. Ryan) is hot on their trail. Scampering into a railroad yard, Manny and Buck board a four-engine work train that is rumbling past. At full speed, the engineer is
thrown from the cab on the first curve and killed. Aware of what has happened, the control tower triggers the brakes. electronically, but they burn off. As the trainmen stare in horror, the engines hurtle out of the yard. Manny becomes suspicious of the train’s increasing velocity. Looking up, Buck spots a railroad employee making his way towards their engine. In fear of discovery, they brutally grab a hooded stranger who turns out to be a woman (Rebecca DeMornay).
