Discussion on wage round
PA Wellington Employers’ representatives will gather in Wellington today to apply the finishing touches to their bargaining strategies for this year’s wage round. The first salvos in the wage round were fired on Tuesday when the Engineers’ Union announced it would table a claim for a $24 a week pay rise when the award talks start on Monday. The trend-setting metal trades claim reflects last week’s Federation of Labour national executive’s resolution that affiliates should seek a $24 a week across-the-board pay rise, in keeping with the amount the F.O.L. first offered employers as the basis for a central agreement.
The Employers’ Federation director-general, Mr Jim Rowe, has since described the pay claim as unacceptable.
