Clarendon a private sale only
The Clarendon Hotel will not be sold by auction but a buyer has yet to be found. A spokesman for the owner, Ballins Rattray, Ltd, said there had been some interest in the building but nothing definite had been reached. The Clarendon would cerftinly be sold by private negotiation, however. The site, at the corner
of Oxford Terrace and Worcester Street, is thought to be one of the best in Christchurch. Depending on the plans of the buyer, the hotel built in 1902, could be demolished. The company decided last month to sell the hotel and the adjoining X Avon Car Park building ’ because of high maintenance costs.
