Vigil for Irina
Sir, —The divine paternity of Jesus is a theological question that to the atheist Marxist ideologists of the Soviet Communist Party as a matter of complete indifference. So why should a 12-year-old schoolgirl be “brutally beaten” for proclaiming it? H. G. Oram’s belief in this (September 9), let alone adducing it, is even more incredible than the tale itself. M. L. Monson’s false analogy of a parallel between my contesting the many mistaken views of the Soviet Union expressed in these columns and Soviet dissidents’ close collaboration with Western propaganda agencies, supplying them with subversibly false materials maligning their country’s socialist system like the anecdote in H. G. Oram’s letter, or Solzhenitsyn’s infamous “Gulag Archipel- . ago,” the most notorious of dissident slanders, is totally invalid.— * Yours, etc., * M. CREEL. September 9, 1986. y
