Austrians here
Three of the world’s leading giant slalom exponents — Hubert Strolz, Hans Enn and Guenther Mader — are among the Austrian men’s ski team which will arrive in New Zealand today for a month-long training camp at Mount Hutt.
Strolz narrowly missed winning the World Cup men’s giant, slalom circuit last northern winter, being pipped at the post by the Swiss, Joel Gaspoz, and the Swedish veteran, Ingemar Stenmark. He was placed eighth in the
over-all World Cup standings.
Another team member, Enn, was fifth in the giant slalom at the world alpine ski-ing championships at Bormio last year. Mader was placed eighth in the 1985-86 World Cup slalom final standings and was tenth in the over-all World Cup.
Both Strolz and Mader, along with another member of the contingent, Guido Hinterseer, also trained and raced at Mount Hutt in 1983. Towards the end of their training camp the Austrians will race in the second section of the 1986 Air New Zealand F.I.S. international ski series at Mount Hutt, scheduled from September 22 to 26.
