Speedway connection
PA Wellington New Zealand’s strong winning connection with the world speedway championship took another turn when the Ivan Mauger-managed Danish rider, Hans Nielsen, won Sunday’s world individual speedway title in Chorzow, Poland. Barry Briggs, another former Kiwi world speedway champion, also tasted success as a manager when his young
charge, Kevin Tatum, of Eng-
land, finished third. It was the first time that Mr Mauger had acted as a manager for Nielsen. Mr Mauger had expressed his confidence in the Dane before the final and was sure of a good showing. Mr Briggs had been helping Tatum all season, culminating in the young Englishman taking third position in his first world championship final.
