Strikemaster checks made
PA Wellington Investigations into the cause of wing cracks on two of the Air Force’s Strikemaster jet trainers have been completed, a spokesman has said. A delegation from the aircraft’s maker, British Aerospace, is returning to Britain with information gathered this week and hopes to report back to the Air Force on September 29. All but one of the 15
jets were grounded two weeks ago after a crack was found in one where the wing attaches to the fuselage. Cracks caused some of the jets to be grounded earlier this year, and grounded the entire fleet in 1985. Meanwhile, 13 jets are back in the air resuming their advanced training role with 14 Squadron at Ohakea air base.
