Special correspondent Dunedin
Patchy Boy registered the first win for the training partnership of Doody and Kevin Townley when successful in the Armbro Raven Mobile Pace, first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting at Forbury Park on Saturday evening. Kevin Townley has assisted his father, Doody, for many years and they decided to “make it official” this season. Kevin races Patchy Boy with Gary Young, of
Oamaru. The gelding, now an eight-year-old, entered the Townley stable a few months ago after earlier wins for Terry May and Dick Prendergast He led out then trailed when Tuapeka Reka went to the front after 800 m. Patchy Boy dashed clear of Tuapeka Wreka inside the last 200 m and won comfortably. Cotton On provided the right tonic for his Hinds owner-trainer, Hugh Lowe, and continued a change of fortune for the Hinds horseman, Paul
Young, when the four-year-old Noodlum gelding led throughout the Peppy Fella Pace, second leg of the T.A.B. double and sprinted clear in the straight Lowe was discharged from hospital on Friday, ending a spell there after a heart attack. Earlier in the evening Young drove the impressive co-winner, Ministress, which he also trains. Two other members of Young’s team — Janizary and Alhambra — were also placed at the meeting.
