Charles leads tourney
NZPA-AP Lexington, Kentucky The former British Open champion. Bob Charles, eagled the opening hole and added four birdies en route to a 6-under-par 65 yesterday and a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the Bank One Senior Golf Classic.
Despite a bogey-free round over the par-71 Griffin Gate Golf Course, Charles said his putting was not as sharp as it could have been.
"It’s interesting because I made some long putts but missed some short ones,” said Charles. “I felt more comfortable on the longer ones than on the shorter ones. It was that kind of day.” vr Charles’ two-day total of 10-under-par 132 was one stroke better than an American, Miller Barber, who carded eight birdies ami 10 pars in shooting a course and tournament-record of ”15-under-par 63.
