Mr Beetham stands for council
PA Palmerston North The recently deposed leader of the Democratic Party, Mr Bruce Beetham, is already on the political come-back trail.
A former Mayor of Hamilton, Mr Beetham has been nominated for the Marton Borough Council, and has been reelected unopposed to represent the borough on the Wanganui Area Health Board.
Twelve people are nominated for the eight-seat borough council. Mr Beetham said yesterday that he would announce a decision about his national political future tomorrow. "I will announce on Sunday my decision on whether I stay in the Democratic Party or form a new party,” he said.
Mr Beetham lost the leadership to Mr Neil Morrison at the party conference in Blenheim last week-end.
