Lamb steady
PA Wellington The British wholesale trade for New Zealand lamb has continued steadily this week. However, with major supermarkets still promoting domestic lambs and only buying New Zealand product on a hand-to-mouth basis, there were no large volumes being sold, the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board said in its weekly market report. On the Smithfield market New Zealand PL grade lambs were quoted at 63.5 p to 64.5 p a pound (NZ4I7C to 424 c a kg). Domestic lamb prices reduced from last week by 4p a pound, and with increasing numbers coming forward, the price was expected to drop back even further in the near future. The U.S. imported manufacturing beef market strengthened this week due to low supplies from Australia and New Zealand, and the domestic beef market remained steady. The average price for imported bull beef increased by USl.5c to US94c a pound c.i.f. (NZ4l9c a kg), and cow beef climbed by USlc to USB6.5c a pound c.i.f. (NZ3B5c a kg).
