Big shoe burglary
Shoes valued at more than $30,000 were taken when burglars raided a central Christchurch shop on Wednesday night More than 580 items of footwear were taken from R. Hannah and Company, Ltd, in High Street. Christchurch detectives believe that the burglars must have been in the shop for some time and used a big vehicle to remove the booty. Detective Senior-Ser-geant Michael Muddiman said that entry was gained by forcing a rear window. Security doors inside were also forced as burglars roamed through the shop. The burglary was
discovered when the shop was opened yesterday morning. Shoes were taken from the showroom as well as a storeroom, said Detective Senior-Sergeant Muddiman. They included 270 pairs of men’s shoes, 162 pairs of sports shoes, and 40 pairs of women’s shoes. Children’s shoes, slippers, and jandals were also taken. The till was forced open and $5O cash taken. Anyone who saw suspicious activity near the shop on Wednesday night is asked to get in touch with the Christchurch C. 1.8.
