Royal wedding
Sir, —Obviously, F. M. Robertson (August 24) was more concerned in promoting God than the universal desirability of certain qualities for a successful marriage, otherwise there would have been no need to write of God in the first place. It was most generous of your correspondent to ignore 90 per cent of my letter and then go for an ineffective tourniquet on the remainder. Reference to the Christian God can only apply to one-fifth of the world’s marriages, leaving fourfifths beyond the consideration of “blessings” of this discriminating deity, as laid down through the usual propaganda, suggested, insinuated or implied, that positive qualities are only viable through the Christian God. Within excess of 2000 major gods known to modern man, the Christian God has no more to offer or approve of than the remaining 1999.—Yours, etc.,
ARTHUR MAY. August 23, 1986.
