Sexist images
Sir, —There have been, many calls, and rightfully so, to remove sexist words from the language. I feel there is, however, a more important issue, that of sexist child propaganda. Television advertisements show boys playing with “Transformers” and space ship power; machines, and little girls
with “Barbie,” the rock star doll. School books show women in inferior, boring jobs, and men in the opposite. The whole idea of the morality involved in child advertisements and teaching needs serious examination. —
Yours, etc., NIGEL CAIRNS. August 18, 1986.
