N.Z. security
Sir,—l am sad there has been no full-length reply to I. G. Morrison’s article (July 26) on Peace Movement Aotearoa, World Peace Council influence thereon, Soviet practice and intentions and threats to New Zealand® security. I. G. Morrison is
ill-informed on all four. I have belonged to the World Peace Council for four years and have seen no sign of Soviet funding except some stock literature. It has no particular influence on the movement. The Soviets have no design to conquer the world, let alone this distant part of it. The Soviets have, however, assisted the military ousting of capitalism and upper-class rule in some already Communist or Left-wing countries on their borders only. Neither the U.S.S.R. nor any Pacific power, except the United States, is capable of getting here to invade us. We, and most of the world, are at far more risk from American subversion and from capitalist exploitation. — Yours, etc.,
SUSAN TAYLOR. August 19, 1986.
