Standard of maths
Sir, —In reply to Mark D. Sadler’s letter (August 21), I too have made a study of special numbers. My favourite, the humble number 7 (and multiples thereof), makes mincemeat of his number (142857). Not shunning modern technology, I unashamedly admit using the latest electronic calculator in my research. Readers may also be interested in knowing that I am considering bottling 7s and marketing them as "indestructible number destructors.” The N.Z. Skeptics Association may be interested in knowing that 666 is also on my hit list and progress so far is satisfactory. — Yours, etc.,
R. J. CHRISTIE. August 21, 1986.
