Remarkable comeback
PA Wellington The Australian Universities men’s hockey team made a remarkable late comeback yesterday to nearly snatch a win over its New Zealand counterpart. On the national hockey stadium’s artificial surface in wet, windy Wellington, the Australians fought back with a gritty second-half display. They trailed, 0-3, at the interval and 0-4 two minutes later, but lost only 3-4.
On Saturday, the Australians were beaten, 5-1, by Wellington but worked on their tactics overnight and they came back with a will yesterday. Results: Wellington 5 (D. Lints 3, G. Taylor 2) Australian Universities 1 (R. Francis). Half-time. 2-1. New Zealand Universities 4 (P. Tynan 2, P. Borren, J. Mackey) Australian Universities 3 (R. Francis 2, D. Watson). Half-time, 3-0.
