English Cup soccer
A 2-0 win over Budget House Rangers yesterday gave KLM Cashmere an English Cup soccer knockout quarter-final clash against Christchurch Brother United. Murray Inwood scored a goal in each half to put Cashmere into the last eight of the competition. United was too strong for St AlbansShirley, winning 9-1. An own goal conceded in the opening minute put University on the back foot and it never recovered against Classique Technical. Further goals by Scott Sinclair and Terry Neville gave Technical a 3-0 win, and it will meet Burwood — which beat Lin-
coin College by default — in a quarter-final. Burndale United continued its remarkable season by lowering its second Hertz League side, Sharp Copiers Western, at Burnside Park. Burndale won the premier division without dropping a point, and had already beaten Shamrock, 3-2, in the first round of the English Cup. Yesterday it beat Western, 21. It will get the chance to make it three southern league clubs in succession when it meets Nomads United in the quarter-finals. Nomads beat Riccarton, 3-1, yesterday.
