Terminal plans for Wgtn approved
PA Wellington A new $36.6 million domestic terminal has been recommended by the Wellington City Council’s airport committee. The plan is the most expensive of three the committee has considered but will be capable of taking increased passenger levels into the next century. The decision was unanimous, and will go to a special meeting of the council today for final approval before being sent to the Minister of Civil Aviation, Mr Prebble, next week. The committee’s chairman, Mrs Helen Ritchie, would not reveal financial details of the plan as she said it was information privileged to the Minister. If approved by him, working drawings would be done and she hoped construction would begin early next year.
Mrs Ritchie said the plan was chosen because the others, costing $3O million and $35 million, required construction at a later date and the airport would appear to be under a constant building programme and be more difficult to use.
