Posties’ strike to cover Chch?
Postal delivery workers in most parts of Christchurch are believed to have voted by secret ballot to strike tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday in support of striking Aranui posties. The Aranui posties have been on strike for a week after talks , broke! down with the Post Office over their request for one extra postie to do a round which has already been mapped out The Post Office has said that an extra postie is not needed but it is prepared to make a comprehensive check, having already done similar. exercises
previously without finding a need for more posties. The 18 Aranui posties will meet this morning to review their strike. If they call it off it is unlikely that posties in the rest of Christchurch will go ahead with their strike. It is also believed the executive of the Post Office Union Will make the final decision on whether the strike spreads. The executive is jn Wellington for the union’s annual conference. The secretary, Mr Ron Burgess, could not be reached last evening for comment.
