Boxer in contention
NZPA staff correspondent Edinburgh A featherweight boxer, John Wallace, put himself into medal contention with a narrow points victory over John Mkangala, of Malawi, in the quarterfinals of the 57kg division yesterday. Wallace, an Invercargill salesman, went through to the final four after four of the five judges awarded
him the three-round match. Three of the judges only gave him a one-point margin over the Malawi featherweight. However, the light leavy-weight, Raeli Raeli, in apprentice panel beater, was not so lucky, being beaten on points by a Canadian, Brent KosolofSki, in his 81kg division.
