Call for tape safeguard
PA Wellington An Opposition member of Parliament, Mr Paul East, has called for the Chief Film Censor’s replacement and “adequate safeguards” to restrict hard-core jiornographic video tapes in shops.
He said the latest available in New Zealand were far worse than in Britain and Australia. It appeared that the Chief Film Censor, Mr Arthur Everard, had taken a more lenient line on video tapes for hire. This, Mr East said, was
“out of line with public thinking” and should be reversed at once.
“The large number of pornographic video tapes that have now become available through video shops is totally unacceptable,” Mr East said.
He has written to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Tapsell, asking for action to stop tapes which until recently he thought could be obtained only on the black market or in countries with much more permissive laws.
