ZONING OF STATE SECONDARY SCHOOLS FOR SEVERAL YEARS the State Secondary Schools In Christchurch have operated an enrolment scheme that has focused primarily on controlling third form entry to these schools. As it is several years since any major review of this scheme, the Christchurch Secondary Schools’ Council has established a Working Party to undertake a detailed study of the principles upon which the scheme is based, to consider alternatives to the existing scheme and to review the broader social, educational and administrative Implications of the existing and alternative schemes. The terms of reference for the Working Party are: 1. To review the current Christchurch Secondary Schools’ Enrolment scheme. 2. To examine, report and where appropriate make recommendation on alternative approaches to secondary school enrolment schemes which might be appropriate for Christchurch schools, with particular regard to: (1) Current and anticipated developments in education. (11) Demographic trends projected for Christchurch until the year 2000. (ill) The interests of state and integrated schools. (iv) The Interests of single-sex and co-educa-tlonal schools. (v) The impact of enrolment schemes on: Communities, School organisations, staffing, buildings and finance, Pupils and parents. 3. To examine any other matter, which in the opinion of the working party Is of relevance to the general issue of secondary schools enrolment in tae Christchurch area.
