No ‘dirty linen’ for Young Nationals

Young Nationals in Canterbury had no intention of airing their dirty party linen in public, said their divisional chairman, Mr Paul Avey, yesterday. Waikato Young Nationals criticised the party’s direction and consistency in a letter to the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Bolger, on July 17. The National Party was seen to be concerned with political point-scoring and ad hoc decision-making with a general lack of discipline among members of Parliament, the letter said.

Mr Avey said yesterday that Canterbury Young Nationals were unhappy with some aspects of the party’s performance.

Some members were dissatisfied with the party’s failure to release policy, because it made it hard to canvas support. Specific criticisms would go through the proper party channels, however, and not be made public, he said.

Mr Avey did not think Mr Bolger or the Waikato Young Nationals had leaked the letter of,-July 17 to the news media.'
