P.O. closing denied
A petition with about 400 signatures which will be presented in Parliament next week lost much of its bite at a public meeting in Yaldhurst last evening.
The member of Parliament for Yaldhurst, Mrs Margaret Austin, said the petition was to stop the Staveley Street Post Office from being closed.
Both Mrs Austin and the
Postmaster-General, Mr Hunt, told the meeting that there had been no decision to close any post office in the Yaldhurst electorate.
Mrs Austin said the petition was an example of how a rumour could spread. To keep faith with the petitioners she would still present the petition to Parliament.
