Peter Wolfenden looks likely to end season on high note

Special correspondent Auckland

Peter Wolfenden looks to have a fine chance at Alexandra Park tomorrow night of winding up the season on a highly-suc-cessful note.

The Drury horseman could well carry off the main races on the second night of the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting. Game Martini appears to have second-to-none prospects in the Kathy Glass Handicap Trot, the first leg of the T.A.B. double and Pixanover and Robindale Lord should be tough to beat in the Mount Albert Handicap Pace. As well, Snatchagap seems sure to be the favourite in the Manukau Handicap Trot. Wolfenden actually has three of his team in the Kathy Glass Handicap Trot, the others are Lord Seaton and Captain Carthew.

It is difficult to fancy Captain Carthew on his performance on the first

night of the meeting last Saturday but Lord Seaton went well enough then to warrant strong consideration.

Game Martini, in the hands of Wolfenden, gave a splendid showing when second to silver spot in the Ponsonby Handicap last week when starting from 10 metres.

This time, Silver Spot has to give him 20 metres over the same distance 2700 metres.

Silver Spot should, nevertheless, again be hard to beat, although Rick Evander also looks likely. He only just failed to snatch third place from Andy Brydon, last time out and he is well overdue for another win.

Camberley Albatross makes strong appeal in the Northcote Mobile Pace, the second leg of the T.A.B. double.

The John Cooney trained five-year-old was a meritorious fourth in a flying mile on the first night after starting from a second row barrier posi-

He had also raced very well in his previous three races but each time had no luck in the running. Camberley Albatross has drawn the front row in the Northcote Mobile Pace and the distance, 2700 m, will suit him better than a mile. Zedechias has won his last two races so impressively he is bound to have a big following.

Both were a mile but he has shown himself to be a versatile pacer and the longer journey will not trouble him. Against him, though, is a second-row barrier position. Sheraton Way, Bennimm and Petite Pauvre look the best of the others.

Sheraton Way is racing particularly well. A second on the first night brought his score in his last five races to one win, three seconds and a third. Bennimm and Petite Pauvre have also been showing good form in their latest races.
