Bleak badminton prospects
From KEIVIN TUTTY ip Edinburgh
Graeme Robson, New Zealand’s leading hope for an individual medal in the badminton competition at the Commonwealth Games has a realistic chance of reaching the quarter-finals, but will then strike Steve Badde-
ley of England, the top seed. Robson has been seeded sixth in the men’s singles but has little prospect of progressing past the final eight
None of the other New Zealanders in the singles or doubles competitions has been seeded.
Katrin Lockey, if she proceeds through her first round singles game, will meet the No. 1 seed,
Helen Troke of England, in the second round.
In the mixed doubles Robson and Toni Whittaker have struck the competent Canadian pair of Michael Butler and Claire Sharpe. Even if they progress past that difficult first round game, they will strike the top seeds, Nigel Tier and Gillian Gowers in the second round.
