Bonus Bonds
Sir, —I am beginning to wonder if the . Bonus Bonds draw winning numbers are all held by bone fide bond owners. The reason for my query is that during the last year I bought three $lOO units, series numbers 463, 1070 and 1072. Bonds are now up to the 10,000 series, so if I could get lots so low in the numbers how many more gaps are there through the range?' I cannot complain about my $5OO investment as I have recovered all of it in small prizes.—Yours, etc. B. PALMER. July 5, 1986.
[Mr P. J. Nicholas, Deputy Chief Postmaster, replies: “The correspondent is mistaken when referring to his/her purchase of three $lOO units. The number quoted, 463, relates to a $5O Bonus Bond prefix number and not a $lOO Bonus Bond. The number “6” within the group of numbers indicates that the value of the bond is $5O. Likewise, the number “7” within the other numbers quoted, indicates a $lOO bond. For the information of the correspondent, the following shows the indicator numbers within the prefix number relating to’ the value of the Bonus Bonds: 010, $1; 020, $2; 030, $5; 040, $10; 050, $2O; 060, $5O; 070, $100; 080 and 090, $500; 1090, $5OOO. All Bonus Bonds are held by bona fide bond owners and all bonds are Issued in strict numerical order, to minimise gaps in the numbering series.”]
ETHNE GRENFELL. July 23, 1986.
