$47,000 alteration
PA Auckland Fears that anaesthetic gases can cause miscarriages in female hospital operating theatre staff have helped prompt a $47,000 alteration to two Auckland hospital theatres.
Special gas scavenging systems will be installed in seven theatres at Green Lane Hospital and five at National Women’s Hospital.
Overseas studies have linked the release of anaesthetic gases in theatres to health problems among theatre staff. Women were found to be at particular risk with a high incidence of miscarriages recorded.
