Fewer drownings
PA Wellington Drownings have claimed 13 fewer lives in the year to June 30 than at the same time last year. Provisional figures released by the Water Safety Council show 73 people have drowned so far this year.
Twenty-six people have drowned at the beach, compared with 19 last year. Ten fewer people have drowned while boating, in the first six months of this year compared with last year. Up to June, 1985, 22 people had died in boating accidents.
