From OWEN GILL in Melbourne A New Zealand-born man who said he won a Purple Heart while serving in Korea has been convicted of a SNZ2OO,OOO dole fraud in Perth. Keith Errol Stutz, aged 53,. pleaded guilty to 31 charges arising from the offences, which were spread over nine years. Defence counsel, Mr John Rando, told Judge Toni Kennedy of the Purple Heart award which Stutz said he won while serving with the United States Army in Korea. Mr Rando said Stutz had started offending

when he found himself unemployed for the first time in his life. Stutz had been in a heavy drinking bout when someone in a hotel put him on to the scheme for using false identities to get unemployment benefits.

Most of the money had been squandered, Mr Rando said. Stutz was remanded in custody for sentence today.

Questioned outside the court, Mr Rando said Stutz had left New Zealand when he was 16. His family had raised him the United States, where he joined the Army.
