Man sought about robbery
The attendant of a Linwood service station that was robbed of $5OOO on Sunday evening had earlier noticed a customer who behaved strangely.
The ' customer had seemed curious about the East End Service Station, in Ferry Road, and asked the attendant, Mr Richard Forrester, a number of questions. Detective Senior-Ser-geant Michael Muddiman said that the police would
like to talk to the customer, described as Maori or Polynesian, of average build, and 178 cm (sit lOin) tall. The man drove a white PB Vauxhall and bought $lO worth of petrol.
Mr Forrester was held up at 5.55 p.m. as he prepared to close. A man hit him over the head and took the contents of the service station’s safe — about $3OOO cash and $2OOO in cheques.
Mr Forrester suffered minor injuries.
The robber, who told Mr Forrester he had a gun, is described as 182 cm (6ft) tall, thin but muscular, and with a deep voice.
He wore green overalls, a dark-green or black balaclava, and dark glasses. He carried a red cylindrical bag with brown ends. *-■C
