Trigger Point for Balmoral Stud
Special correspondent Auckland Big changes are taking place at Balmoral Stud, Cambridge; the highlight being the introduction of a close relative of Sir Tristram.
Mr Peter Allen, owner of the stud, has recently purchased the United States-bred Trigger Point, which will stand alongside the stud’s resident sires, Last Tango and Inviting, this spring. Trigger Point is by Bold Bidder, a champion sire son of Bold Ruler, from the Irish-bred mare, Cornish Lady. Cornish Lady, the winner of three races in the United States, is by Sir Ivor from Isolt, thus a full-sister to the champion sire, Sir Tristram. “It is the same family as Star Way (the country’s top young sire)," said Mr Alien. Bold Bidder has had 55 stakes winners, the star being Spectacular Bid. Spectacular Bid was the top two three and four-year-old in the United States, as well as being a record stakes winner and
voted “Horse of the Year."
Through Bold Bidder another cross of Princequillo will be introduced to the country (Sir Tristram is “doubled up" 4 x 3 to Princequlllo).
Mr Allen raises the question of which stallion will be “heir presumptive” to Sir Tristram. "He could well come from Sir Tristram’s female line," said Mr Allen, referring to Trigger Point, which gained success in Australia. Balmoral Stud has undergone some big changes this year with the purchase of a nearby property, formerly known as Chester Farm. The additional land means Balmoral Stud now covers about 80 hectares, which includes a private training track and 38 boxes, and. will enable more racing needs to be serviced by the stud.
“We will now cover from conception through to the racetrack,” said Mr Allen, referring to the breeding, raising, break-ing-in and agisting of horses.
