Team will battle smoking
A team of concerned anti-smokers, from several professions and. interests, has launched a national Tobacco Advisory Council, to coincide with Smoke-free Week. The . Dunedin-based council alms to reduce smoking by all lawful means, educate the public in the dangers of smoking, initiate and support legislative change to reduce smoking, and negotiate with the Government on behalf of anti-smoking groups. . The council was concerned at the tobacco companies* endeavours l to induce more young people to smoke, In spite lof mounting evidence about the many diseases caused by smoking, said the council’s executive secretary, Mr Trevor Reeves. The council endorses the anti-smoking aims of such groups as the National Heart Foundation, the Cancer -Society, Action on Smoking and Health (A.S.H.), and the Health Department
